Highland Cattle have joined our farm family!

We now have Bart the Bull. and the three sisters: "Emmalou, Freeda & Maxine." The sisters are affectionately named after family members.

Some facts about the cattle:

Highland cattle are also referred to as Scottish Highland cattle.  The oldest registered herd/fold was booked in 1884.  In 1885 the cattle were integrated into America.  Today they are found throughout North America, Europe, Australia and South America.  As we refer to our cattle here as being a "herd", Highland cattle are referred to as being a "fold".

The British Royal family has a large fold at Balmoral Castle, near Braemar, Scotland.  It is the beef animal of choice for the British Royal family.

Highland cattle require little in way of shelter, feed supplements or expensive grains to achieve and maintain good condition and fitness.  They seem to enjoy conditions many other breeds would perish.  They are excellent browsers and tend to eat what other cows pass by.  Cold weather doesn't bother them since they have a double coat of hair.  They will shed their coats in warm weather.  These cattle are very good natured, even the bulls. They are easy to halter break and work with.

We are very excited and happy to welcome them to our family!
